An image distortion correction apparatus comprises: a position relationship estimation unit that estimates the position relationship between an image pickup unit and a subject; a first storage unit that stores the pixel data corresponding to a subject image and to a background image thereof; a distance limitation unit that calculates a distance limitation value in accordance with an estimated distance; a pixel position conversion unit that, when the distance estimated by a distance estimation unit is greater than a reference distance, converts, on the basis of the distance limitation value, the pixel positions of the corresponding pixel data stored in the first storage unit to the pixel positions in a case where the focal distance of the optical system of the image pickup unit is set to be infinite and that, when the distance estimated by the distance estimation unit is equal to or less than the reference distance, maintains the pixel positions of the corresponding pixel data stored in the first storage unit; and a second storage unit that stores pixel data corresponding to the subject image and the background image thereof the pixel positions of which have been converted by the pixel position conversion unit. |
