A method for unlocking a terminal includes the steps of a terminal for: displaying a pattern input area including multiple points on a display screen; sensing pattern input including rotation input of circling on a portion of at least one point from the multiple points or the whole point; checking whether the pattern input is the same as a predetermined unlocking pattern; and unlocking the terminal or an application operating in the terminal if the pattern input is the same as the unlocking pattern.
