PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin composition that gives a cured product excellent in transparency, heat resistance, toughness, and coloring resistance, and in particular a resin composition having characteristics suitable for optical components.SOLUTION: A polyfunctional acid anhydride is obtained by reaction of a polyhydric alcohol (A) containing at least three hydroxyl groups in one molecule with a trimellitic anhydride halide and a nucleus-hydrogenated trimellitic acid anhydride halide. A polyfunctional acid anhydride is obtained by reaction of a polyhydric alcohol (B), which is obtained by reaction of one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of alkylene oxides, cyclic ethers, and cyclic esters with the polyhydric alcohol (A), with a trimellitic anhydride halide and a nucleus-hydrogenated trimellitic acid anhydride halide. A thermosetting resin composition comprises the polyfunctional acid anhydride and a compound containing at least one epoxy group in one molecule. |
