A control device for an electrical load comprises a thyristor-switched dimmer circuit (D), which dimmer circuit comprises a thyristor between a feed line (Vline) and the load (LED) in order to generate an adjustable power output to the load. The dimmer circuit (D) comprises a series connection of the thyristor (Q1) and at least a controllable semiconductor resistor element (Q2) with a control electrode (G).
