A lens drive apparatus (10B) that displaces a lens holder (24B) in a direction (Z) of an optical axis (O) and a direction (X, Y) orthogonal to the optical axis (O) comprises: a coil (18B) that is assembled together with the lens holder (24B) to form an assembly (18B, 24B); a magnet (28B) that is disposed at a position facing the coil (18B); a housing (14B, 42B) to which the magnet (28B) is attached and which houses the assembly (18B, 24B); a base (14B) that serves as a bottom of the housing (14B, 42B); and a position detection section (50B) that is provided to the base (14B) and detects a position of the assembly (18B, 24B) in the direction (X, Y) orthogonal to the optical axis (O).
