CALL ADMISSION CONTROL METHOD

A method and arrangement for controlling call admissions to a path in a packet-switched network. A restriction factor is determined on the basis of a load condition on the path as defined by indicators such as jitter and packet loss. The restriction factor is adjusted based on a previous load condition and a current load condition. By determining the load primarily based on measured jitter, the arrangement reacts to congestion proactively before experiencing packet loss. The arrangement may be implemented entirely in an edge node of the network, and thus does not require additional mechanisms within the network such as signaling and resource reservation.
