1. A gel matrix composition, comprising:
inter-connected vacancy-engineered nanoparticles of zinc oxide (ZnO), zinc peroxide (ZnO2) or a combination thereof, wherein the vacancy-engineered nanoparticles have surface defects associated with oxygen vacancies, wherein the nanoparticles have a diameter of about 3 to 8 nm, wherein the vacancy engineered nanoparticles include a coating of a surface capping agent having both a carboxyl group and hydroxyl group, and wherein the gel matrix composition is prepared at room temperature. |
