PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biomass solid fuel which uses plant-based biomass fiber such as EFB (Empty Fruit Bunch) fiber as a raw material, and which is excellent in transportation efficiency, has high calorific value and can be used as a partial alternative fuel of coal in a coal-fired power generation facility, and to provide a production method of the biomass solid fuel.SOLUTION: There is provided the biomass solid fuel which is obtained by compression molding of semi-carbonized biomass while heating it, the semi-carbonized biomass being obtained by heating plant-based biomass fiber, and which contains fixed carbon of 18 to 26 mass%, a volatile component of 65 to 75 mass%, an ash content of 3 to 6 mass%, a water content of 8 to 16 mass% in air dry base and which has a higher calorific value of 18 to 21 MJ/kg in air dry base. The biomass solid fuel is produced by: heating pulverized plant-based biomass fiber in atmosphere of 5 vol.% of oxygen concentration at 200 to 290°C thereby subjecting the pulverized plant-based biomass fiber to semi-carbonization treatment; pulverizing the resulting semi-carbonized biomass; then subjecting the resulting pulverized semi-carbonized biomass to compression molding while heating it in the presence of water or vapor. |
