PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing member having excellent releasability and paper-passing durability.SOLUTION: A fixing member to be used for fixing a recording material applied on a recording medium onto the recording medium P includes: a base material 901a; and a release layer 901b as an outermost layer on the base material 901a. The release layer 901b is formed of a silicon-oxide film containing carbon atoms. An infrared absorption spectrum of the release layer 901b has an absorption peak derived from Si-CH. Carbon atom concentration in the release layer 901b is 40-72 percent by atom.
