摘要 The present invention is a dual resonant breast coil design for combined sodium and proton breast MRI with increased SNR at 3T when compared to a coil with a single proton and sodium channel. The coil consists of a 7-channel sodium receive phased array, a large sodium transmit coil, and a 4-channel hydrogen transceive array. An interleaved overlapping coil layout is used to reduce coupling between sodium and proton coil elements. The new composite array coil demonstrates a 2-5× improvement in SNR for sodium imaging when compared to a simple single-loop dual resonant design.

A composite 1H and 23Na array for magnetic resonance imagery, the array comprising: a. a plurality of 23Na receive loops formed into a 23Na receive array; b. a 23Na transmit coil further comprising a plurality of co-axial 23Na loops each with at least one capacitor, the loops being joined at the capacitors; c. at least one 1H transceive array, further comprising a plurality of overlapping 1H loops and each 1H loop incorporates a crossed diode pair; and d. a plurality of 1H TR switches, each switch incorporating at least one crossed diode pair wherein the crossed diode pairs of the 1H transceive array and plurality of 1H TR switches are forward biased during a 1H transceive operation and unbiased during 23Na transmission and reception.
