1,167,841. Metal carbonyl compounds as polymerization initiators. STAMICARBON N.V. 5 Jan., 1968 [5 Jan., 1967], No. 925/68. Heading C3P. A monovinyl aromatic monomer is polymerized with or without a conjugated diolefine and with or without a polyvinyl aromatic monomer with the aid of a catalyst composition derived from a transition metal carbonyl compound and a halide of a metal of the fourth to sixth groups of Mendeleev's Periodic System. A suitable combination is nickel tetracarbonyl and titanium tetrachloride. If desired part of the carbon monoxide evolved can be driven off before use. Polymerization preferably occurs in solution in an inert solvent.
|
