A driving assistance apparatus (6) comprises: an approach detection unit (71) that detects obstructions within a set distance; a behavior regulation unit (73) that forces a vehicle to brake if an obstruction is detected by the approach detection unit; a placement memory (66) that stores a past captured image of the environment around the target parking area; a captured image acquisition unit (61) that acquires a current captured image of the environment around the target parking area when the car is parking in or leaving the target parking area; and an obstruction identification unit (70) that, on the basis of the difference between the past captured image stored in the placement memory and the current captured image acquired by the captured image acquisition unit, identifies any nonstationary objects in the environment around the target parking area. The approach detection unit sets the set distance for stationary objects to be shorter than the set distance for nonstationary objects.
