[Also in Division B1] Apparatus for receiving, storing and dispensing liquid fractions, e.g. for iron-exchange apparatus, comprises a plurality of storage vessels 2, e.g. arranged in a circle, connected by pipes 4 to collector vessels 3 to which the liquid fractions are supplied by a distributer 27, e.g. rotary, as shown, the fractions being selectively removed from vessels 2 by supplying compressed gas to the selected vessel 2, via gas distributer 11a and pipe 18, to discharge its contents via pipe 5 to a common collector vessel 6, from which the liquid is pumped by a pump 19s. As shown, the liquid fractions are obtained from the outflowing liquid from an ironexchange column 20, the liquid passing via pipe 26 to distributer 27. Collector vessels 3 are formed as compartments in an annular ring. Alternatively, the collector and storage vessels may be arranged in parallel rows with the liquid and gas distributers mounted on slides. The supply of gas for discharging storage vessels 2 is controlled in dependence on the liquid level in collector vessel 6 by a float 7 controlling a switch 8. Pump 19a transfers the liquid from vessel 6 to the top of the iron-exchange column 20 via a distributer 21 and a baffle 22, the liquid flow being regulated in dependence on the relative positions of a float responsive to the liquid level in the column and a float resting on the column bed. As shown, the gas distributer comprises a pipe 11a rotatable by a gear 14 and having a diaphragm-actuated connector 15, the gas pressure acting to press the connector into sealing contact with a selected port 17 in a fixed disc 16, Fig. 3 (not shown). Alternatively, the gas distributer comprises a rotary disc with a distributer passage contacting a fixed disc with ports 17, Fig. 4 (not shown). The connections 4 and 5 to vessels 2 may be at the bottom ends, as shown, or connection 4 may be at the top end, via a siphon Fig. 2b (not shown). Alternatively, connections 4 and 5 may be at the top and bottom, respectively, of a container having a funnel connection from its bottom leading to the bottom of vessel 2, Fig. 2c (not shown). The gas and liquid distributers may be actuated manually or automatically, together or independently, and may be controlled by floats in the storage vessels.</p>
