A bonding press for bonding textile fabrics 4, 5 together has a loading device 3, such as a conveyer, disposed between a heated, unpadded lower press platen 1 and an upper, padded platen 2. The pressing surface of the padded platen 2 is of resilient silicone material which may incorporate an adhesive-repellent and the platen may have openings for the passage of air and steam. It may also be provided with a control device for controlling the admission of compressed air or suction to the openings. The press may be used to bond an interlining fabric to a face fabric by means of thermoplastic adhesive, in which case, the face fabric is placed face downwards on the conveyer and the interlining, coated with the thermoplastic, is arranged on top of it. Since the lower platen is heated, the thermoplastic first melts into the face fabric and subsequently into the interlining.</p> |
