PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for an organic EL display element and an organic EL display element capable of preventing abnormal light emission caused by a leak of current to adjacent pixels with a hole transport layer formed on a pixel electrode in an organic EL display device and generating no short circuit between a positive electrode and a negative electrode. SOLUTION: In the organic EL display element made of an organic light-emitting medium layer including the pixel electrode 2, the negative electrode 6, and an organic light-emitting layer 5 and making the organic light-emitting layer emit light by flowing current from both electrodes to the organic light-emitting layer, a width dimension L1 in a direction orthogonal to the thickness direction of a partition wall 31 is formed in an inverse-tapered shape increasing in the direction separating from an upper surface of a substrate 1, and, after forming the hole transport layer 4 on the upper surface of a partition wall 3 and the upper surface of the pixel electrode 2, a width dimension in the direction orthogonal to the thickness direction of the partition wall 31 is formed in the normal-tapered shape decreasing in the direction separating from the upper surface of the substrate 1 by heat-treating a partition wall 3 with an inverse-tapered shape.
