摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the total layer thickness of a body to be charged which is equipped with a plurality of covering layers each having a different dielectric constant. SOLUTION: The photosensitive layer 92 of an image holding body 22 includes a charge generating layer 94, a charge transporting layer 96 and a protective layer 98. The saturation charge amount Q of the image holding body 22 is increased nearly in proportion to the decrease amount of the total layer thickness of the photosensitive layer 92 until the total layer thickness of the photosensitive layer 92 is decreased to a specified value. A calculation part 112 calculates the wear amount (layer thickness decrease amount) of the photosensitive layer 92 by using variation (value of tiltα: relation information) of the saturation charge amount Q of the image holding body 22 to the wear (layer thickness decrease of 1μm) of 1μm of the protective layer 98.
