PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for reducing the number of detection toner patterns formed in a stabilization control, thereby sufficiently reducing the size and cost of the apparatus. SOLUTION: An image stabilization control means is provided with a selective control means that operates in the second and subsequent stabilization controls, and selects, out of three control means such as a deposition amount control means, a laser light quantity control means and a gradation correction control means, the control means to be executed and the control means to be eliminated by updating the previous stabilization control result, and then, controls the three control means based on the selection results.
