Poly(meth)acrylic acid derivatives in which some of the monomer units are esterified and others may be in the form of amide groups, are used in aqueous compositions as cement grinding aids. The use of aqueous compositions containing polymer(s) (A) of formula (I), as cement grinding aids. M : H, alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, di- or tri-valent metal, ammonium or organo-ammonium; R : H or methyl; R 1>, R 2> : 1-20C alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkylaryl or -(AO) n-R 4>; A : 2-4C alkylene; R 4> : 1-20C alkyl, cyclohexyl or alkylaryl; n : 2-250; R 3> : -NH 2, -NR 5>R 6> or -O-R 7>-NR 8>R 9>; R 5>, R 6> : H, 1-20C alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkylaryl, aryl, hydroxyalkyl, acetoxyethyl, hydroxyisopropyl or acetoxyisopropyl, or R 5> and R 6> together may form a morpholine or imidazoline ring; R 7> : 2-4C alkylene; R 8>, R 9> : 1-20C alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkylaryl, aryl or hydroxyalkyl; a/b/c/d : (0.1-0.9)/(0.1-0.9)/(0-0.8)/(0-0.3); (a+b+c+d) : 1 .
