A pneumatic tyre has a tread wear marker 8 contained within a recess 2, the marker being located wholly radially inward of the tread surface by means of a shoulder portion 7, and being visibly or audibly distinguishable from the tread rubber so as to indicate a predetermined amount of tread wear which has occurred adjacent the marker. The marker may be of cubical or rectangular block shape, cylindrical or discshaped, frusto-conical or prismatic. It may also be screw threaded into the recess. It may be made of more than one colour or type. of material 14, 15 to indicate different degrees of tread wear. |
