Bricks are made from blast furnace slags, suitably from a zinc-lead blast furnace, by crushing and sieving part of the granulated slag, mixing this powder with uncrushed granulated slag, moistening the mixture with about 4 wt. per cent of water, compressing into bricks and heating. The heating is suitably carried out in an autoclave with steam at 140-240 p.s.i.g. and about 240‹ C. for 4-8 hours. The sieved powder is suitably less than 150 B.S.S. and the uncrushed granulated slag is about “ inch mesh or less. Glass fibre may be incorporated in the mixture.</p> |
