<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a PVA aqueous solution, the method only slightly forming foam and causing few troubles in manufacturing, even when a polyvinyl alcohol aqueous solution with a low degree of saponification and a high degree of polymerization is to be manufactured, and an inkjet recording medium obtained by application of a coating liquid containing the PVA aqueous solution. <P>SOLUTION: A solution is prepared by mixing at least the polyvinyl alcohol with the degree of saponification of 80-95% and with the degree of polymerization of 2,000 to 4,000, water, and a defoaming agent containing a hydrophobic silica together, and the solution is heated. The solution preferably contains the hydrophobic silica-containing defoaming agent at a ratio of 0.001 to 0.05 mass% with respect to the polyvinyl alcohol. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
