PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for driving an electrolytic capacitor that can suppress gas production caused by reaction with electrolytic paper to prevent appearance abnormality like explosion-proof valve expansion, and the electrolytic capacitor. SOLUTION: For the electrolyte for driving the electrolytic capacitor, an enzyme such as xylanase, lignin peroxidase and cellulase is mixed to an electrolyte containing ethylene glycol as a main solvent and carboxylic acid and/or its ammonium salt as a main solute by 0.1 to 10.0 wt.% for the whole electrolyte. Consequently, chemical reaction between the electrolyte and electrolytic paper can be suppressed to suppress expansion of an explosion-proof valve. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
