PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system capable of shortening the time required for rewriting map data and which has improved convenience. SOLUTION: Map data are stored in a memory 25 for map data, and map data indicating in detail at least part of a map indicated by the map data stored in the memory 25 for map data are stored in an external memory 33a for navigation. By mounting the external memory 33a for navigation on a mounting part 32, it is possible for a navigation processing part 30 to read any map data of the memory 25 for map data and the external memory 33a for navigation, according to position information and display a map on a display part 27. Since the map data is stored divided into the two memories, updating of the data to be stored in each memory can be performed in a time shorter than the time required for updating data to be stored in one memory, when the map data is to be updated and shorten the time required for updating the map data in total.
