<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device reducing the L length of a switching transistor for alternately supplying high potential and low potential to a common electrode forming a capacitor between pixel electrodes. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device includes a scanning line Y, a data line X, a pixel electrode 55 disposed in accordance with their intersection, the common electrode 56 forming a capacitor between the pixel electrodes, a control circuit 30 alternately supplying a voltage VCOML of low potential and a voltage VCOMH of high potential to the common electrode, a scanning line driving circuit 10 successively supplying a selection voltage selecting a scanning line to the scanning line, and a data line driving circuit 20 alternately supplying an image signal of a positive polarity, and an image signal of a negative polarity to the data line when the scanning line is selected. The control circuit 30 includes a selection circuit R which alternately outputs the voltage VCOML and the voltage VCOMH to the common electrode. and a latch circuit Q which outputs the selection signal to the selection circuit R.
