<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine for restraining reduction in activity of an exhaust emission control catalyst resulting from a drop in the exhaust temperature. <P>SOLUTION: An EGR flow diversion pipe 14 is composed of a diversion part 31 interposed/connected between an exhaust pipe 13 and a turbocharger 21, and a pipe part 32 joined to/integrated into a side surface of the flow dividing part 31. The flow dividing part 31 is a welding structure product using a steel plate and a steel pipe as a raw material, and its heat capacity is set relatively small.
