<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing utensil with a barrel which is of a simple construction with a comfortable gripping feel under such a design as to check rotation of a gripping member. <P>SOLUTION: This barrel of a writing utensil has a gripping member consisting of a laminar construction of the inner layer and the outer layer made of a soft material fitted to a gripping part of a barrel body.
