The invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to methods, devices and melt compositions for applying coatings to iron and steel products by immersing into aluminium and zinc melts or into the melt of the alloys thereof, to methods for preparing the product surfaces for coating and to fluxes used for applying aluminium-alloyed zinc melt coatings. The inventive method consists in entirely immersing a coatable article into a heat carrier melt, in subsequently holding said article in the melt in such a way that it is heated to the heat carrier temperature and in extracting the article through the top layer of a coating material, wherein a coating layer is applied. The inventive device is embodied in the form a vertical bath which is externally heated, contains a central heatable body and forms, jointly with said central body, an annular cavity for a melt. Said bath is provided with an additional upper section mounted from the top thereof.
