PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a prop for a protective structure against avalanche and falling rocks allowing a worker to transport and carry the prop into construction site easily and capable of improving the efficiency of the work at construction site accompanied with excavation and ensuring satisfactory strength in a connection section for connecting an upper part with a lower part of the prop. SOLUTION: This prop 2 is constituted by connecting the lower part 2S with the upper part 2U of the prop and providing a plurality of PC steel bars 21, 21A continuously in the inside of the lower part 2S and the inside of the upper part 2U of the prop. By connecting the lower part 2S with the upper part 2U of the prop in this way and providing a plurality of PC steel bars 21, 21A continuously in the inside of them, satisfactory strength in the connection section can be ensured. By fixing the lower part 2S of the prop in an installation place, the prop 2 for a protective fence 1 being the protective structure can be erected. Furthermore, since thickness of the prop 2 is not increased in the connection part of the lower part 2S and the upper part 2U of the prop, size of diameter of a dug hole in which the prop 2 is inserted is not increased.
