1302085 Fixing inorganic and organic pigments in fibrous materials FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 2 March 1970 [1 March 1969] 9830/70 Heading D1B Inorganic and organic pigments are fixed on fibrous materials by applying thereto a print paste or pad liquor containing a pigment, a pigment binding agent consisting of an aqueous solution of an uncross-linked precondensation product capable of reacting with itself at above 130‹C to form a water-insoluble film, the precondensation product being obtained from (I) a polyester resin which has been prepared by esterification of a telomer containing a carbonylic and/or carboxylic anhydride group with a dicarbonylic acid and a diol by reacting with II a hardening resin consisting of an aminoplast precondensate, and subsequent neutralisation with ammonia or a volatile organic amine, the paste or pad liquor further containing a potentially acidic compound as a hardening agent, e.g. ammonium chloride, sulphate, diammonium phosphate or diethyltartrate, and fixing the prints or padded dyeings with or without intermediate drying by a dry heat treatment. The polyester (I) may also contain a mono- or poly-functional alcohol or carboxylic acid and the resin (II) may contain an aminoplast precondensate having partially or completely etherified methylol groups. The binding agent is preferably applied as a 65% aqueous solution of the precondensation product, the weight ratio of (I):(II) being in the range 95:5 to 60:40. Fixation takes place at 130-200‹C for 1-10 minutes and the hardening agent may be ammonium nitrate, oxalate, acetate, fluoride, chloride or thio-cyanate, diammonium phosphate or tartaric acid diethyl ester. A thickener may be present and the pigments used include phthalocyanine, thioindigoid and disazo pigments and soot.
|
