Disclosed is the use of a first compound, wherein said first compound (a) inhibits the binding of retinol to RBP; (b) is capable of inhibiting transcription of RBP or TTR; (c) is capable of inhibiting translation of RBP or TTR; (d) is capable of increasing RBP or TTR clearance; or (e) inhibits RBP binding to TTR, for the manufacture of a medicament for treating type I or type II diabetes wherein the medicament is formulated for systemic administration.
