PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a robust and highly-soluble phosphorescent coloring matter of high emission luminance, coloring matter for organic electroluminescent (EL) elements, for which good subliming properties and high heat resistance are required. SOLUTION: The coloring matter consists of a metal complex compound represented by general formula [wherein, M is a bivalent or trivalent metal atom; A<SP>1</SP>is an aromatic or heterocyclic ring; A<SP>2</SP>is a heterocyclic ring; R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are the same or different and at least one of them is alkyl or aryl; m and n are each 1 or 2, wherein the sum of m and n is represented by the valence (2 or 3) of the metal atom].
