PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of preventing color unevenness of a projection image and reduction of a quantity of projection light. SOLUTION: The projector includes: a variable transmission filter which is disposed in the middle of an optical path extending from a light source to at least any of a light modulating devices 61R, 61G, or 61B and which has a total transmission area where incident luminous flux is totally transmitted and a color filter area where luminous flux of a specific wavelength is cut; an image information analyzing means 13 that analyzes input image information; and a filter drive control means 14 that controls the drive of the variable transmission filter on the basis of an analysis result obtained by the image information analyzing means 13.
