The method involves detecting a condition or a condition change of a part of operating elements (40, 42, 50) by sensors. Signals produced by the sensors for a processing device are fed. A determination is made whether the detected condition change is permissible in relation to a condition of other operating elements. The determination is made based on a table in which conditions and condition changes of groups of operating elements are stored. An output signal for executing a safety function i.e. warning signal production, is produced based on the determination. An independent claim is also included for an operating table system.
