<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for an optical recording medium capable of nondestructive readout using a photochromic substance, and capable of giving an optical recording medium and an optical switch having excellent performances such as a high rate of conversion to a colored body, a high response speed and high repetition durability, and to provide an optical recording medium and an optical switch using the composition. <P>SOLUTION: The composition for an optical recording medium contains a matrix comprising a silicon-based resin and a substance showing photochromism.
