PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gripping device capable of folding an expansible tube in small folding width dimensions and carrying out folding work of the expansible tube and suitable for miniaturization. SOLUTION: This gripping device 20 grips a work by pressure contact force of the expanded expansible tube 22 by; arranging the expansible tube 22 folded at two points on an outer peripheral surface of a body 21; respectively fixing both ends of the expansible tube 22 on the body 21 in a sealed state and; constituting an airtight space 8 covered with the expansible tube 22 on the outer peripheral surface of the body 21. The expansible tube 22 is formed of a rubber material in which a reinforcing cord of less than 0.2 mm in diameter as a whole by twining two pieces of monofilament strings is buried.
