1,214,732. Aircraft undercarriages; seaplane floats. BELL AEROSPACE CORP. 25 June, 1968, No. 30132/68. Headings B7A and B7G. In an inflatable undercarriage for aircraft supported by struts 24, an envelope device made of elastic material is supported by a longitudinally disposed spar 25 that has apertures 29 through which air, fed in via a conduit 28 in the strut 24, passes to inflate the envelope (Fig. 4, not shown) which when deflated, contracts into close relationship with the spar 25. The envelope 26 may be attached to the bottom of the spar member 25 as shown or may be attached to the top (Fig. 4, not shown) and is reinforced at 32 with wear resistant material. The air may be supplied and exhausted through a valve (30) attached to a supply (40), Figs. 5, 6 (not shown). In the embodiment of Fig. 7 (not shown) the spar 25 supports a plurality of envelopes and in Figs. 8-14 (not shown), hinge plates (42) are attached to the spar 25 in various ways to form supporting surfaces for the envelope when deflated, springs (44) being additionally provided in the embodiment of Figs. 10, 11 (not shown) to assist the hinge plates in folding when the envelope is deflated. In yet another embodiment (Figs. 13, 14, not shown) the spar 25 is of substantially triangular shape and is fitted at the lower end to a tubular ski member (50). |
