CATALYST CONTAINING MACROCYCLIC COBALT COMPLEX, ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD AND ITS USE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst containing a macrocyclic Co complex, which can be manufactured at a low cost and exhibits high catalytic activity when used in an oxygen reduction reaction and to provide a method for manufacturing the catalyst containing the macrocyclic Co complex and use of the catalyst containing the macrocyclic Co complex.

SOLUTION: The catalyst containing the macrocyclic Co complex is manufactured by coordinating imidazole with the Co of the macrocyclic Co complex obtained by coordinating a nitrogen-containing macrocyclic molecule with Co. A distance between the adjacent oxygen atoms when an oxygen molecule is adsorbed on this catalyst having such a structure that imidazole is coordinated with the macrocyclic Co complex can be made longer than that between the adjacent oxygen atoms when the oxygen molecule is adsorbed on another catalyst having such a structure that imidazole is not coordinated with a macrocyclic metal complex. As a result, the catalytic activity of the catalyst can be improved when the catalyst is used in the oxygen reduction reaction of the macrocyclic metal complex.
