<p>In an optical delay unit employing a line defect waveguide of photonic crystal, distortion of waveform is avoided when a super high speed signal is processed by satisfying both a long optical delay time and a small group velocity dispersion. Two line defect waveguides (5, 11) having different diameters of columns and group velocity dispersion of a reverse sign are connected through a line defect waveguide (8) where the diameter of a column is varied stepwise from one line defect waveguide (5) to the other line defect waveguide (11), thus compensating for the group velocity dispersion while keeping optical delay effect.</p> |
