PURPOSE: A cosmetic composition for skin whitening is provided to ensure the effect of suppressing melanogenesis and tyrosinase activity and ensure antioxidative activity. CONSTITUTION: A skin whitening cosmetic composition contains 0.005-50 weight% of Pleuropterus multiflorus extract based on the total weight. The extract is obtained using polar solvent selected from water, low alcohol of 1-4 carbon atoms or their solvent. The composition expresses skin whitening effect by suppressions of melanogenesis and tyrosinase activation.
