PURPOSE: A memory system and a method for managing abrasion of the memory system are provided to manage the abrasion by a plurality of segment units. CONSTITUTION: A memory system includes a variable resistance memory and a conversion layer. The variable resistance memory inputs and outputs data by the first unit. The conversion layer manages abrasion of the variable resistance memory by the second unit different from the first unit. The second unit is bigger than the first unit. The first unit is a word unit. The second unit is a segment unit including plural word units.
