A noise reduction technique which mutes the audio output and switches the playback speed in case of continuous moving images with high matching level. For this purpose, an audio and moving image playback device determines to change a playback speed of the input data including the moving image signal and audio signal. When the changeover decision section determines a changeover to a different playback speed during playback of the audio and moving image signals, a period when a matching level in the moving images exceeds the specified value is detected as a changeover timing to perform playback of the audio and moving image signals in accordance with the input data. When the changeover decision section determines to change a playback speed, the playback speed is switched at the changeover timing and the audio output is muted based on the audio signal at the changeover timing.
