<p>PURPOSE:To attain discrimination of various types of characters with a simple OCR by extracting the features of characters for each row in the order of appearance of features and then extracting the character contour by the order of appearance of the left and right ends of a character segment to discriminate characters. CONSTITUTION:A lateral segment is divided into a left longitudinal segment of two longitudinal segments for each row, and the corresponding row feature codes are delivered through a row feature extracting circuit 11. Then plural rows adjacent to each other are collected for redivision, and a feature signal is delivered from a partial feature extracting circuit 12 for discrimination. While a left end detecting circuit 21 detects the presence of a character row (column number of the black cell at the left end) for each row out of the signal sent from a binary coding circuit 7. A left side form discriminating circuit 23 discriminates the form at the left side of a character from a signal Pi. The form of the right side id also discriminated in the same way, and the character form obtained by compounding left and right forms is discriminated.</p> |
