An RJ-45 communication jack to prevent incorrect insertion and thus mis-mating of an RJ-11 communications plug comprises: a housing with a plug receiving cavity 122; at least one guide 130, 131 protruding from a first surface 124 of the housing into the plug receiving cavity 122; and at least one stop 127 provided at a second surface of the housing. The guide is configured to contact a plug housing of the RJ-11 plug upon insertion of the plug and directs the RJ-11 plug towards the second surface where the stop 127 prevents full insertion of the plug. In a separate embodiment, the housing may comprise a jack frame 120, wherein the guide 130, 131 extends from an interior surface 124 of the top wall of the frame and the stop 127 is formed in the bottom wall. In a further separate embodiment, first and second protrusions 130, 131 spaced apart from each other extend from a first interior surface 124 of the jack frame 120 into the plug receiving cavity 122 and a recess 126 is disposed in an opposite interior surface.
