The method involves uncovering a shield (3) i.e. mesh wire shield, of a cable (2). A contact element (4) is made of an electrically conductive material i.e. plastic, by an injection-molding process and is attached to the uncovered region of the shield. An external housing (5) is mounted. The contact element is electrically connected with the external housing. A region surrounded by the external housing is partly filled with an electrically non-conductive material (7) before or after the injection molding process. An independent claim is also included for a plug connector comprising a contact element.
