PURPOSE: An image display device is provided to form a local dimming differently according to the average luminance level of an image signal by determining the brightness of a light emitting diode at each divided region according to a look-up table. CONSTITUTION: An image analysis part(110) measures an average luminance level of an image from an RBG image signal. An LED brightness decision unit(120) uses the average luminance level of the image and the average luminance level of the first divided region. The LED brightness decision unit decides the brightness of the LED element corresponding to the first divided region. An LED driver(140) drives the LED element according to the brightness of the LED element. The liquid crystal panel displays the RGB image signal.
