PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a method of manufacturing the same are provided to drastically reduce afterimages, thereby improving display quality. CONSTITUTION: A counter substrate(201) comprises an upper substrate, a common electrode and an upper reactive mesogen layer. The upper substrate is opposite to the lower substrate. The common electrode is opposite to the pixel electrode in the upper substrate. The upper reactive mesogen layer is formed on the common electrode. A liquid crystal layer(180) includes a liquid crystal.
