A method and system for reducing delay in a speech coding system. The speech coding system includes a preprocessor and a speech coder. Th e speech preprocessor produces a data frame of a preprocessed speech signal. A left portion of the data frame is multiplied with a synthesis window and a right portion is multiplied with an inverse analysis window, The multiplied left and a multiplied right portion of a previous data frame are added to produce a data buffer for use in speech coding. The speech coding parameters are then determined.
