Sharing access to a data store by a host processor and a signal processor in a mobile phone

Disclosed are a method and system for sharing access to a storage unit 3 or memory unit by a pair of processing units 2, 4 in a mobile device 1. The two processing units are connected to the interface 5 of the storage unit. The processors are interconnected to allow communication with regard to access to the storage device interface. Access to the storage device interface is controlled by the first and second processors exchanging signals. The first unit requesting access by sending a signal to the second unit and the second unit sending back a permission signal indicating that the first unit may access the storage unit. The first unit may be digital signal processor 4, the second may the host processor 2 and the memory unit may be a SD card. The mobile device may be a mobile phone configured to play audio files from a memory card plugged into the device.
