An air buffer material has a first air chamber constituting the bottom of a housing part for housing an article to be packaged and a second air chamber constituting the peripheral wall part of the housing part. The first air chamber has a valve capable of injecting and exhausting air and a top face part with a vent hole formed therein. The first and second air chambers are communicated with each other through the vent hole. When the second air chamber is filled through the vent hole with air injected from the valve into the first air chamber, the second air chamber is swollen toward the side of the housing part. This enables to fill alsothe part constituting the bottom of the housing part for housing the article with sufficient air. Therefore, buffer action using the air is shown effectively to effectively prevent the article from being broken etc. due to a shock from outside etc.
