The document (1) has a document body (2) with an upper side (16). A fiber optic structure (10) for guiding light in a plane is formed over total reflection at boundary layers (13, 14) of the fiber optic structure in the document body, where the plane runs parallel to the upper side. The boundary layers have local modifications, so that the light guided into the fiber optic structure is forwarded at positions of the local modifications. The structure conducts light transmission through the upper side of the document body. The fiber optic structure is made of transparent plastic material. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a valuable or security document.
